Evolver Rehearsal Techniques.

before each performance i start with a half hour long vocal warm up, which has helped to improve the quality of my voice.

during the warm up i do a variety of different excerises which all help to improve my technical skill in a different way, for example, i'll start with a physically excercise such as a game where you sit in a circle, one person in a chair and another behind you, and one person stands in the middle of the cirlce and winks at one person sitting in the chair, the person behind them then has to try and tap the person before he/she has the chance to get away.

this game helps to envoke focus, after this we start with vocal excercises such as going up and down a scale on a hum so as not to strain the voice, and then again on a 'la'/'ooh'/'mmm' noise.

after this we usually sing a few songs, (if in a group) all together and then again in rounds.

after starting with warm ups such as this, my vocals are considerably stronger and louder and i am alot more focused than if i didn't start with them.

the project highlighted that my confidence on stage/stage presence is a weakness for me, as i am quite a shy person i sort of withdraw myself from the audience, instead of getting involved with the crowd/moving around the stage more etc.

i think that to improve this i could do excercises in which i have to be on stage in front of a few different people a week or something, and dance around as much as i can, and look like a total idiot in order to stop me from being so shy on stage.

i did find that some of the songs proved to be more difficult to master than others but i think that was because it wasn't the music that i was used to singing/ the music that suited my voice.

for example 'groove is in the heart' by 'dee-lite' i found difficult because it wasn't a style of music i was used to singing and i found it quite hard to hit the high notes,

and with 'funnel of love' i found it difficult to get the right tone of voice as the original track.

to solve these problems i listened to the songs on repeat and sung along with them until i felt confident enough to sing along with a band, and then when i found bits that i had difficulties with, i went back to the track and went over it a couple times and then back to the band etc.
