on my own- les mis, a bit shit/
On My Own from the musical 'les miserables', written in French by Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil in 1980, but wasn’t staged in London until 1985 with English lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer it is a solo for the part of Éponine. The chorus of the song is the same tune as that of "Come to Me", although it adds a bridge and the tune of the verses are different. Beginning in the key of D, modulating to Bb (even though the song does not actually change key), then ending in F, this is her most important song.
this song is about a woman who is secretly in love with her friend but nobody knows ["I love him, but only on my own"]. she dreams that someday maybe he'll love her too, but she knows it'll never happen because he's in love with someone else. even so, she'll always love him.
i feel that this would be a good solo performance piece because it is a contrasting peice compared to the norah jones song i have chosen (its genre being broadway/ musicals) also it has alot of feeling and the vocal range would stretch me as a musician and strengthen my vocals and breathing technique.
