RAMA LAMA

{Bang, bang}
Could a body close the mind outStitch a seam across the eye?If you can be good, you'll live foreverIf you're bad, you'll die when you die
Hearing only one true noteOn the one and only soundUnzip my body, take my heart out'Cause I need a beat to give this tune
Taking a picture ofTaking a picture ofTaking a picture of{Bang, bang}
Oh, the body swayed to musicOh, the lightning glanceI would give it all and allMaybe you would hear meAsk for half a chance
Hearing only one root notePlanted firmly in the groundUndo my heart, unzip my bodyAnd lend to my ear a clear and a deafening sound
Unzip my heart
And if I need a rhythmIt'll be to my heart I listenIf it don't put me too far wrongAnd if I, and if I
And if I need a rhythmIt's gonna be to my heart I listenIf it don't put me too far wrong
Everybody smile pleaseNobody pay no mind to meFinger in position on the switchA little flash photography
Taking a picture of you(To my heart)Taking a picture of, taking a picture of meTaking a picture
Ramalama bang bangFlash, bang, big bangBing bong, ding dongDum dum d-dum dum
With a hammer, bang bangFlash, bang, press gangBing bong, ding dongDum dum d-dum dum
With a st-stammer, bang bangCrash bang, big bangBoing boing, boing doingDum dum d-dum dum
With a st-stammer, the bang bang(With a st-stammer)With a st-stammer(Crash bang, the bing bang)Crash bang, big bang(Boing boing, boing doing)Bing bang, crash bang(Dum dum d-dum dum)
And if I, and if I need a rhythmIt's gonna be to my heart I listenAnd if I, and if I need a rhythmIt's gonna be to my heart I listen
And if I, and if I need a rhythmIt's gonna be to my heart I listen
Need a rhythm(And if I, and if I)Need a rhythm(And if I, and if I)Need a rhythm(And if I, and if I)Need a rhythm(And if I, and if I)
Need a rhythm(And if I, and if I)Need a rhythm(And if I, and if I)And if I, and if I need a rhythm
THE MOON'S A HARSH MISTRESS

See her HOW she flies
Golden sails across the sky
Close enough to touch
But careful if you try
Though she looks as warm as gold
The moon's a harsh mistress
The moon can be so cold

Once the sun did shine
And lord it felt so fine
The moon a phantom rose
Through the mountains and the pine
And then the darkness fell
The moon's a harsh mistress
It's hard to love her well

I fell out of her eyes
I fell out of her heart
I fell down on my face, yes I did
And I tripped and I missed my star
And I fell and fell alone
The moon's a harsh mistress
The sky is made of stone

The moon's a harsh mistress
She's hard to call your own

MONSTER

Brain fried tonight through misuse
Through misuse, through misuse
You can't avoid static abuse
Abuse, abuse

Without these pills you're let loose
You're let loose, you're let loose
Take off, get out, no excuse
No excuse, no excuse

What's that coming over the hill
Is it a monster? Is it a monster?
What's that coming over the hill
Is it a monster? Is it a monster?
What's that coming over the hill
Is it a monster? Is it a monster?
What's that coming over the hill?

Confused, mind bruised, it seeps out
It seeps out, it seeps out
Face down, home town looks so grey
Looks so grey, looks so grey

Convexed you bend, twist and shout
Twist and shout, twist and shout
Stand up brush off get moving
Get moving, get moving

What's that coming over the hill
Is it a monster? Is it a monster?
(x4)

Face down, home town, face down, home town
Face down, home town, it looks so grey
(x4)

What's that coming over the hill
Is it a monster? Is it a monster?
(x4)

GONE TO PIECES

I think i'll call the whole thing off
A joke's a joke, it isn't funny anymore
Enough's enough
Now i forget what i was fighting for
I played the game
I lost
I even took the blame
I lost
I think i'll change my name
To lost
I'll never be the same anymore
So tell the whole world
I'm not here, i'm somewhere else
And i'm not coming back

Cos i'm
Gone to pieces
Out to lunch
Gone to pieces
Tired of running with the bunch

I'm tired of going to the wall
When i had nothing but the best intentions
I'm sick of answering the call
Of alexander graham bell's inventions
I took a gamble every day
I lost
I didn't wanna play
I lost
Down each and every by way
I lost
And yes i even did it my way
So tell the whole world
I'm not me i'm someone else
And he's gone with me too.

Gone to pieces
Out to lunch
Gone to pieces
Tired of running with the bunch
(tired of living punch for punch).

TALKING HEADS THIS MUST BE THE PLACE

Home is where i want to be
Pick me up and turn me round
I feel numb - burn with a weak heart
(so i) guess i must be having fun
The less we say about it the better
Make it up as we go along
Feet on the ground
Head in the sky
It's ok i know nothing's wrong . . nothing

Hi yo i got plenty of time
Hi yoyou got light in your eyes
And you're standing here beside me
I love the passing of time
Never for money
Always for love
Cover up + say goodnight . . . say goodnight

Home - is where i want to be
But i guess i'm already there
I come home - -she lifted up her wings
Guess that this must be the place
I can't tell one from another
Did i find you, or you find me?
There was a time before we were born
If someone asks, this where i'll be . . . where i'll be

Hi yo we drift in and out
Hi yo sing into my mouth
Out of all tose kinds of people
You got a face with a view
I'm just an animal looking for a home
Share the same space for a minute or two
And you love me till my heart stops
Love me till i'm dead
Eyes that light up, eyes look through you
Cover up the blank spots
Hit me on the head ah ooh

FAT MAN IN BATHTUB

Spotcheck Billy got down on his hands and kneesHe said "Hey mama, hey let me check your oil all right?"She said "No, no honey, not tonight.Come back Monday, come back Tuesday, and then I might"
I said Juanita, my sweet Jaunita, what are you up to?My JuanitaI said Jaunita, my sweet chiquita, what are you up to?My Juanita
Don't want nobody who won't dive for dimesDon't want no speedballs 'cause I might die tryingThrow me a line, throw me a line'Cause there's a fat man in the bathtub with the bluesI hear you moan, I hear you moan, I hear you moan[ From: http://www.metrolyrics.com/fat-man-in-the-bathtub-lyrics-little-feat.html ]
Billy got so sad, dejected, put on his hat and start to runRunnin' down the street yelling at the top of his lungs"All I want in this life of mine is some good clean fun""All I want in this life and time is some hit and run"
I said Juanita, my sweet Jaunita, what are you up to?My JaunitaI said Jaunita, my sweet chiquita, what are you up to?My Juanita
Put my money in your meter baby so it won't run downBut you caught me in the squeeze play on the cheesy side of townThrow me a dime, throw me a line'Cause there's a fat man in the bathtub with the bluesI hear you moan, I hear you moan, I hear you moan
RUSTED ROOT

(On my way, on my way)
(On my way, on my way)

I would like to reach out my hand
I may see you, I may tell you to run (On my way, on my way)
You know what they say about the young.

Well pick me up with golden hand
I may see you, I may tell you to run (On my way, on my way)
You know what they say about the young.

Well, I would like to hold my little hand
And we will run, we will, we will crawl, we will
I would like to hold my little hand
And we will run, we will, we will crawl

Send me on my way (On my way)
Send me on my way (On my way)
Send me on my way (On my way)
Send me on my way (On my way)
Send me on my way (On my way)
Send me on my way (On my way)
Send me on my way (On my way)
Mm hmm (On my way)

I would like to reach out my hand
I may see you, I may tell you to run (On my way, on my way)
You know what they say about the young.

Now pick me up with golden hand
I may see you, I may tell you to run (On my way, on my way)
You know what they say about the young.

Well, I would like to hold my little hand
And we will run, we will, we will crawl, we will
I would like to hold my little hand
And we will run, we will, we will crawl

Send me on my way (On my way)
Send me on my way (On my way)
Send me on my way (On my way)
Send me on my way (On my way)
Send me on my way (On my way)
Send me on my way (On my way)
Send me on my way (On my way)
Mm hmm (On my way)

Well, I would like to hold my little hand
And we will run, we will, we will crawl, we will
I would like to hold my little hand
And we will run, we will, we will crawl

Send me on my way
Send me on my way
Send me on my way
On my way
Send me on my way
Send me on my way

I would like to reach out my hand
I may see you, I may tell you to run (On my way, on my way)
You know what they say about the young.

on my own- les mis, a bit shit/

On My Own from the musical 'les miserables', written in French by Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil in 1980, but wasn’t staged in London until 1985 with English lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer  it is a solo for the part of Éponine. The chorus of the song is the same tune as that of "Come to Me", although it adds a bridge and the tune of the verses are different. Beginning in the key of D, modulating to Bb (even though the song does not actually change key), then ending in F, this is her most important song.

this song is about a woman who is secretly in love with her friend but nobody knows ["I love him, but only on my own"]. she dreams that someday maybe he'll love her too, but she knows it'll never happen because he's in love with someone else. even so, she'll always love him.

i feel that this would be a good solo performance piece because it is a contrasting peice compared to the norah jones song i have chosen (its genre being broadway/ musicals) also it has alot of feeling and the vocal range would stretch me as a musician and strengthen my vocals and breathing technique.

norah jones justification - a bit shit/

dont know why - norah jones was written by jesse harris in 1999 and then later released by norah jones in 2002 catergorised under the genres of blues, pop, jazz, and folk, it depicts her story of the end of a relationship and her doubts and feelings about the choice she has made.

it is in the key of A.

i have chosen to this song because i feel the genre will suit my voice well and in learning it, will strengthen my vocals. i believe that it will make a good solo performance piece as i can relate to the topic of the song and that alone will allow me to show alot of feeling through my vocals and performance.

PERSONAL STATEMENT - ROUGH AND UNFINISHED. HELP!!!!

personal statement

i have chosen to apply for this university because after having a passion for music and developing my musical abilites for the past six years or so, i would like to continue expanding my knowledge and skill as a musician and continuing it as a proffession.

My love of music began at a young age, and during my time at secondary school i started singing lessons, was the lead singer in my year groups school band, and played in many shows including the annual music concert, and took GCSE music in which i got a C, i then decided to pursue it further at the Miskin Theatre, North West Kent College where i have been studying for the past three years.

during my time there i have learnt alot about musicianship, rehearsal and performance techniques, song writing skills, i have extended my vocal range and stregthened my voice, and i hope to be at grade five theory and to have started my grades at singing by the end of my time there.

over the three years studying at college, a played in a variety of shows of contrasting themes and genres, i have broadened my musical taste and i am comfortable in singing diverse genres.

debrief questions.

Was the process a success? Why?

I don’t feel that the process was a success because none of us used our time 100% effectively, which then slowed us down on the quality and quantity of songs we performed, we didn’t manage to sell out the second night despite our efforts in promoting the event to those on other miskin courses.

Was the performance a success? Why?

I feel that the performance was successful for the most part, the atmosphere and crowd reaction to each song was great, and it was a good energy performance onstage and off.

However it could have been better by doing things such as:

More energy on stage – some people looked a little bit awkward and weird on stage.

More crowd interaction and quicker changovers – although there was a bit of crowd interaction I feel that there were still some spaces of silence between the slower changeovers.

What was your input as an individual ? What else could you have done?

It was my idea to learn the song ‘going down’ by the pretty reckless, and that and the ‘yeah yeah yeahs’ were the only songs I did, however I was asked to be on other songs, but I was too fussy with what I wanted to do.

I also helped to advertise the event by  putting up posters around the college, and handing out flyers, also I had the idea to put the promotional ‘zombie video’ on the big tvs in the canteen.

I could of done a lot more considering there were long periods of time where I wasn’t doing anything, for instance I could have helped out with production meetings etc.

What would you do differently if you were to do the process over again?

I would offer to be on more songs, and maybe even another instrument to get out of my comfort zone.

What did you find hard during the process? What were/are your weaknesses? How have you improved that?

The thing I found hardest with the process was that there was a lot of spare time for me, which I couldof used looking at other songs etc however,so many other people were working on stuff when I had free time and I found it difficult to get into a band where everyone had something to do.

monday - today we looked at the pretty reckless - going down and tidied it up a bit more, there are still some bits where i get a bit muddled and those are the parts of the verses toward the end where she sings at a higher note, and my breath control isnt great and i feel like i dont have enough breath to make it through the words.

also after having listened to the song a few more times i realised that the pattern of the words in some of the verses are slightly different to others, so i had to re-try doing that again.

wednesday -

birthday posterous.

wednesday - me sam katie and dave ran through the yeah yeah yeahs - date with the night, which is pretty much finished. i think the only thing that needs work is me knowing the lyrics by heart, i tried to run through the song without the lyrics and i got up to the final verse, so i still need to learn the words. but musically that is sounding good.

thursday - tom showed us the promo video for freshers and i suggested that it sshould be played on the tvs in the canteen, so that more people have the oppertunity to veiw it.

we also started learning a new song (jamie, morgan, katie and me) by the pretty reckless called going down.

we listened to the song a few times while i wrote out the lyrics, and the oothers listened to drum/bass/guitar covers to learn their parts.

the first time we tried it we werent sure on when the drums kicked in so we had to listen again, and then i wasnt sure on when i came in, another problem we had was the guitar part on the bridge was going on for too long so we had to shorten that down so that the guitar finished with my lyrics, when we had the basic structure and were able to run it a few times, one problem we all noticed was that it always seemed to slow down after the pre chorus/ chorus. so we tried playing it as fast as we could to see if that helped and after that it seemed to flow a little better.

one thing i found difficult is that during the pre chorus i kept using my head voice because the notes are a little higher, not out of my vocal range but it kept throwing me off, but that has got better with practice.
